Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 12, 2026
This policy covers the Patron Saint website, Patron Saint Connect for iPhone, and Patron Saint for Apple TV.
1 Who we are and what this policy covers
Patron Saint is an independent product. In this policy, “Patron Saint,” “we,” “us,” and “our” mean the operator of the Services. Where data protection law uses the term, we are the controller of the personal information we process for the purposes described here.
This policy covers the marketing website at patronsaint.tv, the Patron Saint Connect companion app for iPhone, the Patron Saint player app for Apple TV, and related support communications. We refer to these together as the Services.
Patron Saint is an independent media player. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Patreon, Inc., Apple Inc., or the creators whose work you access. Patreon, Apple, and external media services have their own privacy practices for information they receive directly.
Some information is processed by the apps on your devices to connect your account and play media. Other information, including technical diagnostics, product analytics, website traffic information, and support messages, is received by us or service providers working for us. Local pairing does not mean that the Services make no other internet connections.
2 How your Patreon connection works
You connect an existing Patreon account; you do not need to create a separate Patron Saint account.
You sign in through Patreon’s website in the companion app’s embedded browser. Your sign-in information is submitted to Patreon. Our application code does not read or store your Patreon password.
After sign-in, the companion app obtains the Patreon session credential needed to connect the player. With your pairing action, it encrypts and transfers that credential over your local network to the Apple TV you select. The player validates the session with Patreon and stores the saved session in the Apple TV’s Keychain.
This uses a Patreon web session. The session is an account credential and should be protected like one; it is not a separate Patron Saint password or an assurance that Patreon has issued an app-specific, read-only permission.
We do not operate a cloud pairing relay or an account database that receives and stores your Patreon session. The companion app’s embedded browser can retain Patreon cookies and other website data after pairing. That browser data is separate from the session saved on Apple TV.
The player then communicates with Patreon to request information and media available to the connected account. Patreon and the services delivering its media necessarily receive requests involved in authentication, browsing, and playback.
3 Information used to provide the apps
- Patreon session credential and connection state. Used to authenticate requests to Patreon and keep the player connected. Handled on your devices and in communications with Patreon; the saved player session is held in the Apple TV Keychain.
- Pairing codes, temporary connection information, and local network addresses. Used to find the selected television, verify the pairing, and transfer the session. Handled during communication between your iPhone and Apple TV.
- Account, membership, creator, post, and media information returned by Patreon. Used to display your library, determine available posts, and obtain supported media. Retrieved by the player from Patreon and the relevant media services; the player may retain local display caches.
- Playback position, watch history, and app preferences. Used to resume playback and remember your choices. Stored in local app storage on Apple TV.
- Camera input used to scan a pairing code. Used to read the code displayed by the television. Processed on the iPhone for pairing; camera images are not uploaded to our analytics or support services.
We request camera and local network permissions when needed for connection features. You can manage these permissions in your device settings. Denying a necessary permission can prevent the corresponding pairing method from working.
The apps stream media from Patreon and its delivery providers rather than through a Patron Saint media server. Those providers can receive your IP address, requests for particular media, and their own delivery or playback information. Where supported posts open in an external app, such as YouTube or Vimeo, that provider receives and handles the resulting request under its own terms and privacy policy.
We do not process your payments to creators or receive your payment card details from those transactions. Manage Patreon memberships and billing through Patreon or the payment platform used for the purchase.
4 Diagnostics and product analytics
We use Sentry in the iPhone and Apple TV apps to understand errors and crashes, and Amplitude to understand how app features are used and where the experience needs improvement.
Sentry diagnostics can include the time and type of an error, crash stack information, app and operating system versions, device model, diagnostic identifiers, and limited technical context about actions or operations preceding an error.
Amplitude analytics can include app launches, screen or feature usage, connection outcomes, general playback outcomes, event timestamps, app and operating system versions, and device information. These events are associated with a pseudonymous app or device identifier. Such an identifier can connect events across sessions even without a name or email address, so we do not describe that information as fully anonymous.
The services receiving these requests also receive network information needed to deliver them, which can include an IP address at the transport layer. Amplitude is configured not to record IP address or derived location fields as analytics properties, and not to collect Identifier for Vendor. Sentry is configured not to send default personally identifying information. We do not use those requests to derive a precise location for analytics events.
Our automatic diagnostics and analytics exclude Patreon passwords, session credentials, cookies, pairing secrets, Patreon account identifiers, email addresses, creator and post identifiers, specific media titles, media URLs, search text, and identifiable viewing history. A general event that playback started does not identify the particular video or audio item. We do not use session replay, screenshots, or recordings of Patreon sign-in pages for analytics or diagnostics.
These restrictions concern automatic telemetry. If you choose to describe a particular post or creator in a support message, we receive the information you send and use it to respond to that request.
Sentry diagnostics and Amplitude product analytics run automatically in production builds of the iPhone and Apple TV apps when those services are configured. The apps do not currently include a Settings switch to turn them off. You can request deletion of records we hold by emailing support@patronsaint.app. Check each device separately unless the interface expressly says a choice is synchronized. The marketing website does not currently collect optional analytics. Optional analytics are not required to purchase or use paid functionality.
Where consent is required for a future optional technology, we will obtain it before that collection begins. Withdrawing consent would stop the relevant future collection; it would not automatically delete previously collected records. You can separately request deletion as explained below.
5 The marketing website and support
Our website and hosting providers process technical requests needed to display the site and help protect it. These requests can include an IP address, browser information, the requested page or resource, request time, and technical or security information.
The marketing website does not currently use a third-party analytics product, analytics cookies, or similar optional tracking technologies. Vercel, which hosts the site, may retain operational logs needed to deliver and protect it.
If we later add nonessential cookies, device storage, or similar technologies, we will identify them here and, where applicable law requires permission, obtain that permission before using them and provide a way to change the choice. Patreon’s sign-in cookies in the companion app are a separate part of account connection, not website analytics.
If you contact us, we receive your email address, any name you provide, your message, and any attachments you choose to send. Please do not send passwords, cookies, session credentials, pairing secrets, or private media links. Provide only the information needed to explain the problem.
6 Why we use information
We use information to:
- Connect the devices and Patreon account you choose, display accessible content, and provide playback and local preferences.
- Diagnose errors, maintain reliability, and improve features using the limited diagnostics and analytics described above.
- Deliver, secure, and improve the website.
- Answer support and privacy requests.
- Investigate misuse or security incidents, comply with applicable law, and establish or defend legal rights.
We do not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use membership or viewing activity to build advertising profiles. We do not use personal information to make solely automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects on you.
When we use aggregate statistics, we take steps appropriate to the data to prevent them from identifying an individual. Merely replacing a name with an identifier does not make a record anonymous.
7 Who receives information
We disclose information only as needed for the purposes in this policy:
Providers working for us. These include Sentry for diagnostics, Amplitude for product analytics, Vercel for the website’s hosting, and providers used for support communications and necessary business operations. Access is limited to the information needed for the relevant service. We require appropriate confidentiality, security, and contractual limits on processing, including protections consistent with this policy and applicable requirements.
The providers’ general privacy notices describe their own activities, but their processing of data on our behalf is governed by our arrangements with them. Contact us about information submitted through Patron Saint. For background, see Sentry’s data processing information and Amplitude’s privacy notice.
Services you choose to access. Patreon, media hosts used to fulfill your requests, Apple, and external players receive information when your device interacts with them. Their independent processing is governed by their policies. See Patreon’s Privacy Center. Our responsibility for providers processing information on our behalf is not transferred to those independent services.
Legal and safety needs. We may disclose information when required by valid legal process or applicable law, or when permitted and reasonably necessary to protect legal rights, investigate abuse, or address a security threat. Special restrictions that apply to particular information, including protected viewing information, continue to apply.
Business changes. Information we actually hold may be disclosed to advisers or a successor in a merger, acquisition, financing, or transfer of the business, subject to appropriate confidentiality and legal restrictions. A transaction does not by itself permit materially different uses of information. This provision does not imply that we possess your locally stored Patreon session.
At your request. We may disclose information for another purpose you specifically request or separately authorize, subject to applicable law.
8 Your controls and deletion requests
You can manage different types of information separately:
- Disconnect Apple TV. Signing out in Patron Saint removes the saved session from that television. It does not cancel a Patreon membership or necessarily invalidate other Patreon sessions.
- Clear the companion browser. Use Forget Patreon Sign-In in Patron Saint Connect to remove Patreon website data from its embedded browser. This does not sign out an Apple TV that already has its own saved session.
- Clear local watch history. Use the player’s watch history control to remove that local history.
- Manage optional data collection. Use the analytics, diagnostics, or website choices described above. Check each device separately unless the interface expressly says a choice is synchronized.
- Exercise privacy rights. Email support@patronsaint.app with your request.
Do not rely on deleting an app as a substitute for its sign-out and data-clearing controls. Deletion of local data does not automatically erase records already received by our service providers. Conversely, a request to us cannot delete records independently held by Patreon or another external service.
To handle a request securely, we may ask for proportionate information to confirm your identity or locate a record, such as a non-secret diagnostic or app identifier if one is available. We will not ask for your Patreon password or session credential. Because some analytics records are pseudonymous, we may not be able to locate them using an email address alone; we will explain any applicable limitation and what information would allow us to act.
We act on valid requests within the periods required by applicable law, including where a permitted exception or extension applies.
9 How long information is retained
- Apple TV session credential. Until removed through sign-out or other app data-management behavior; Patreon can independently expire or invalidate it.
- Companion browser cookies and website data. Until cleared using the companion’s control or removed or expired through browser or provider behavior.
- Local watch history, preferences, and caches. Until cleared, replaced, or removed through the relevant app or device behavior.
- Sentry diagnostics. Until no longer needed to diagnose errors, and according to our Sentry project retention settings, subject to a valid deletion request.
- Amplitude analytics. Until no longer needed to understand product usage, and according to our Amplitude project retention settings, subject to a valid deletion request.
- Website analytics and operational logs. Vercel operational logs according to Vercel’s log retention for our hosting project. The marketing website does not currently store a separate analytics dataset.
- Support messages and privacy-request records. For as long as needed to resolve the matter, document our response, meet applicable legal obligations, or address a related dispute.
When a record is no longer needed for a permitted purpose, we delete it or render it no longer personally identifiable. Records subject to a specific legal preservation requirement may be retained for that requirement. Backup copies may remain for a limited backup cycle and are restricted from ordinary use until overwritten or deleted. These practices remain subject to any shorter retention or destruction period required by law.
10 Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate to the information and risks involved. These include encrypted pairing transfers, protected storage of the saved Apple TV credential, encrypted network connections where supported by the services involved, access restrictions for information we receive, and filtering of diagnostic and analytics payloads.
No system is completely secure. This statement does not limit our duties under applicable law. If we discover a personal data breach requiring notification, we will notify affected people or authorities as required.
Anyone with access to a connected television may be able to use the active session and view its library. Protect your devices and local network, and sign out before selling, lending, or giving away a connected device. Report a suspected security issue to support@patronsaint.app without including credentials.
11 International processing and legal bases
Information we or our providers receive may be processed outside your country. We operate from the United States. Information received by Sentry, Amplitude, and Vercel may be processed in the United States and in other countries where those providers operate. Where a transfer safeguard is required, we rely on the data-processing terms and transfer mechanisms those providers make available, and we can provide further information on request.
If the European Economic Area or United Kingdom data protection rules apply to our processing, our purposes and legal bases are:
- Provide connection and playback functionality you request, and necessary related support. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you, to the extent the processing is necessary for that purpose.
- App diagnostics and product analytics as currently implemented. Legal basis: our legitimate interests in operating a reliable service and improving features, where those interests are not overridden by your rights.
- Consent-based website technologies, if we add them later. Legal basis: your consent.
- Protect the Services, investigate security incidents, and administer support or legal claims. Legal basis: our legitimate interests in operating a secure service and protecting legal rights, where those interests are not overridden by your rights.
- Comply with a legal duty. Legal basis: the relevant legal obligation.
We distinguish information necessary to provide a requested feature from information used for optional improvement. If necessary information is not available, the affected feature may not work. Where we rely on consent, withdrawing it does not affect the lawfulness of earlier processing. Our legal basis for processing personal data does not replace a separate permission required for device storage or access.
12 Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live and which laws apply to us, you may have rights to request access to personal information, a copy in a portable form, correction, deletion, restriction of processing, or an explanation of our disclosures. You may also have rights to object to certain processing, withdraw consent, or opt out of certain uses such as targeted advertising, sale, or legally defined sharing.
Where an applicable US state privacy law provides an appeal, you may appeal a decision by replying to our response or emailing our contact address with “Privacy appeal” in the subject. Authorized agents may submit requests where permitted, subject to verification of their authority. We will not unlawfully discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.
Our current practices do not include sale, cross-context behavioral advertising, or the significant automated profiling described above. We honor legally applicable opt-out signals, such as Global Privacy Control, for processing to which those signals apply.
Because the marketing website does not currently use optional analytics cookies or similar tracking technologies, the Do Not Track browser signal does not change additional collection on the site. Do Not Track is separate from legally applicable opt-out signals such as Global Privacy Control and from the privacy choices described above.
You may complain to the data protection or other privacy regulator responsible for your location. If EEA or UK law applies, this includes the relevant supervisory authority. You do not have to contact us first to use a right to complain.
13 Children and age restrictions
The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. Users must also meet the higher age or consent requirements that apply in their location and to their use of Patreon. Users under the age of legal majority need the permission required by our Terms and applicable law.
Access to adult content requires meeting the relevant legal and platform age restrictions. A content preference or mature-content filter is not a substitute for those requirements.
If you believe a child has provided personal information in circumstances not permitted by law, contact us. We will investigate and take appropriate steps, including deletion where required.
14 Changes and contact
We may update this policy when the Services or our information practices change. We will revise its effective date and provide additional notice of material changes through an appropriate channel, such as the website or an in-app notice. If law requires a new consent for a changed use, we will obtain it before that use begins. Accepting the Terms or continuing to browse the website does not, by itself, supply every consent a privacy law may require.
